"VIII. Family of Rev. Guy Smith, of Abingaon Parish.
1. REV. Guy l SMITH was minister of Abingdon Parish, and died about 1720. He was succeeded by Rev. Thomas Hughes. As he had a son named Lawrence, he was probably some relation of Major Lawrence Smith. He had issue, 2, John Smith, baptized June 3, 1701; 3, Guy, baptized December 12, 1704; 4, Mary ; 5, Joanna ; 6, Ann; 7, Susanna; 8, Constantine, born September 16,1717 ; 9, Lawrence, born September 16} 1719.
"Encyclopedia of Virginia Biography, Lyon Gardiner Tyler, Vol. 1, Genealogical Publishing Co, MD, pg 326, "Smith, Rev. Guy, came to Virginia before 1700 and was minister to Abingdon Church, Gloucester county. He was a member of the convention of the clergy that assembled at William and Mary College in 1719. He died about 1720, leaving issue at least four sons, John, Guy, Constantine and Lawrence.
At least three of these had sons named Guy: John (Guy Smith b 1727-Hanover Co, VA – d 1781 Bedford Co, VA), Guy (bapt 6 Jul 1729, d ?), and Constantine (Guy ??). Additionally, there are other men named Guy Smith in the area.
