The following group is created based on YDNA matches. Sometimes trees are incorrect, and sometimes the results of DNA show that believing a particular tree is yours leads to a different direction
than you originally thought. If you see an error in any tree, you are encouraged to send in corrections, sources, etc or post about it on the forum. These lines represent people's research. What the Smith DNA Project attempts to do in those cases is, with sources or reasoning, get the people together in a given group to discuss and then come to a consensus about the data for updating or correcting. We do not remove information without the people who have the trees,
if possible, being aware through a process
so they can confirm or not, or describe the issue if there is a conflict that cannot be easily resolved. We also cannot know,
nor have unlimited time to look for, places on the internet that have additional information. We rely on people whose trees these are,
as project members, and members of this Smith DNA grouping, or interested passersby providing information that will set a new light on members data.
If you know of other DNA matches that are not in the Smith DNA Project at
FamilyTreeDNA, please invite them to join the project so that we may compare
here Also, There is a Submit Photo/Document/Source link on every ancestor page, as well
as a Suggest changes and Contact link.
If you believe you would fit into this group, please 1. join the
Smith DNA Project at FamilyTreeDNA (Official-All), 2.

Send to info@smithsworldwide.org Latest Group Discussion Post ![]() Heard from Foy Varner of the Brewer YDNA Project at FTDNA who has some of the same people in his project. This is due to descendants of Ambrose Brewer, b 1753, died 1855 Hancock County, TN matching Smith. Descendants of Ambrose Brewer are assumed to be SMITH unless proven otherwise. At this point, it is unknown who the father of Ambrose Brewer is, but there is an Ambrose Smith in Chatham Co NC who is son of John Smith b c 1730-1740 and Lucy (last name unknown). Note that a project descendant of Ambrose Brewer did a Big-Y test and the chart shows that the Smith testers AND the Brewer tester all share the same SNP R-BY30446 but Brewer then branches out in terminal SNP R-Y53883. For all trees, going to re-examine them and if a linkage is only surmised but not proven, will put those as an *association* rather than part of the direct line. That includes William Rosser Smith who Linda Cheek had thought was the father of Ambrose Smith. If anyone has proof one way or the other, glad to fix that, otherwise, so far as I know no one at this point knows exactly who the parents of Ambrose Brewer are. I have, for now, put William Rosser Smith as an association with a note that this needs a source/requires proof and that includes a number of people supposed to be his children. Also one of the descendants of James S (Sewell?) Smith had done autosomal but not YDNA. If you are a descendant of Drury Smith who died in Laurens Co SC, please come join the Smith DNA Project Comment by smithsworldwide 2022-09-04 14:06:44 Want to comment in this group?
