The Smith DNA project has a member who has YDNA (ie, male Smith to male Smith to male Smith) for this ancestor, but without STR markers. Why is this? Who remembers Sorenson Labs, where some years back, men who did YDNA kits did them for free and were told that they would be around forever. In May 2015, Ancestry.com took down the SMGF website, citing that "the site has been used for purposes other than what was intended, forcing [Ancestry.com] to cease operations on the site."[10] The action by Ancestry.com was taken in response to news revelations claiming that the SMGF database had been used by Ancestry.com and local law enforcement, without any court oversight [e.g., a warrant] and in violation of SMGF's privacy policy, to try to tie criminal suspects to crime scenes.[11] Although the actions in the case by all parties, particularly Ancestry.com and the local law enforcement, were eventually recognized to have followed proper constitutional procedures of privacy protection and court oversight in the case, the scandal significantly impacted Ancestry.com's reputation and led to the decision to deactivate the website and mothball the SMGF database.
The kit that this descendant of Ebenzer Smith used was from Sorenson and thus cannot be compared on STR markers with others in the project. And Ancestry no longer has the YDNa kits, and told people that if they wanted thim, they had X amount of time to get them off the Ancestry site, which a lot of peple did.
Anyway, back to the YDNA for this member. This is the branch with the information about Ebenezer Smith Notice that the line went to Missouri- Scott County, Benton County and Henry County). Would very much like to find additional people who descend also to compare on DNA. Best is if you are a male Smith that has this line and would consider doing a YDNA test. But also, if you have done an autosomal test, come join the Smith DNA Project at FTDNA (Official-All)
