*****Older information from 2014 regarding Ancestry retiring their YDNA tests. FamilyTreeDNA has YDNA tests you can take; for this project, we look for a male Smith who has a paternal Smith ancestry (ie your last name is Smith, you are a male OR you are a female or other surname that has a male Smiith in your line that can do a YDNA test for you. Saw a notice today that Ancestry is retiring their YDNA and mtDNA tests. You can DOWNLOAD your data but better hurry up and do it. Once you do, you can UPLOAD it as a TRANSFER to the Smith Official DNA Project on FamilyTreeDNA starting at $19 (depends on the number of markers you want to transfer) . (This post was written in 2014, link no longer valid. . Here's what ancestry says
Note that if your YDNA results are already on FamilyTreeDNA, this is NOT for you. You're already probably in the Smith Official DNA surname project, but if you know of people who did Ancestry YDNA, this is for THEM. So, again, HURRY up and do it anc come join the ONE project at FamilyTreeDNA for ALL Smith/Schmidt/Smyth/Smythe of ALL locations- the Smith Official DNA Project . If you have any questions about it, email us at info@smithsworldwide.org Update: Here's a great article by Roberta Estes about the transfer and whether/how you should do it. And, in fact, someone even started an online petition regarding this. |
