Transferring Autosomal Date- from FamilyTreeDNA
LINK to read about it.

If you or a family member have previously tested your autosomal DNA at 23andMe©, AncestryDNA™, or MyHeritage™, you can transfer your results to FamilyTreeDNA by uploading your raw data file. After transferring your file, your autosomal data is uploaded to our database, one of the world's largest genetic genealogy databases.

When you transfer, for free, you will receive a list of your autosomal matches from our database and have access to our Family Finder - Matrix. The Matrix feature allows you to select and compare the autosomal DNA relationship between up to ten of your matches at one time.

Note: Family Finder is the name of our autosomal DNA test.

*****Older information from 2014 regarding Ancestry retiring their YDNA tests. FamilyTreeDNA has YDNA tests you can take; for this project, we look for a male Smith who has a paternal Smith ancestry (ie your last name is Smith, you are a male OR you are a female or other surname that has a male Smiith in your line that can do a YDNA test for you.

Saw a notice today that Ancestry is retiring their YDNA and mtDNA tests. You can DOWNLOAD your data but better hurry up and do it. Once you do, you can UPLOAD it as a TRANSFER to the Smith Official DNA Project on FamilyTreeDNA starting at $19 (depends on the number of markers you want to transfer) . (This post was written in 2014, link no longer valid.
.
Here's what ancestry says

Will I be able to access my Y-DNA and mtDNA results after the service has retired?

After September 5, 2014, you will no longer be able to view your Y-DNA and mtDNA results on the website, but you can download your raw DNA data prior to that time by visitingwww.DNA.ancestry.com and logging in to begin the download process.

Note that if your YDNA results are already on FamilyTreeDNA, this is NOT for you. You're already probably in the Smith Official DNA surname project, but if you know of people who did Ancestry YDNA, this is for THEM. So, again, HURRY up and do it anc come join the ONE project at FamilyTreeDNA for ALL Smith/Schmidt/Smyth/Smythe of ALL locations- the Smith Official DNA Project . If you have any questions about it, email us at info@smithsworldwide.org

Update: Here's a great article by Roberta Estes about the transfer and whether/how you should do it.

And, in fact, someone even started an online petition regarding this.

AND, from Ancestry's blog-they have destroyed the YDNA and mtDNA samples -seems like I remember reading a few years back that they got all the Sorenson data as well.

Never a bomb. This whole project is based on trying to figure out errors and true lines of descent. If someone is wrong in who they believe is the early ancestor, and that can be proven, it's a g....read more.....
