His wife Catherine Dispennet is daughter of Adam Dispennet who married wife Mary May in 1801 in Rockingham Co VA and next is found in Franklin, Licking Co OH in 1820. John and Catherine were married on 14 Dec 1817 at Licking Co OH and are found in 1840, 1850 1860 and 1870 Jersey, Licking Co OH (census) Assuming John B Smith sayed in Franklin for some time, there is a younger John Smith in the 1820 census with 2 m under 10, with a younger Jacob Smith next door. Note that, although some have Adam Smith as the parent, and it may well be, Catherine Dispennet's father is named Adam. If you have any information with sources about who John B's father is, please weigh in and especially if you are a male Smith that has this line, please consider doing a YDNA test so we can compare. Along that line, we are also wanting descendants of Adam Smith, born c 1748 and lived with wife Hannah in Shendandoah Co VA. (will on this page). Some descendants went to Ohio and we are wanting to sort out just where the children went and if the locations are accurate (again, using the will as a template for children). the Smith DNA Project has one YDNA tester with no matches at this point so having at least one more YDNA test as well as solid lines on autosomal is key. Branch Some potential YDNA candidates are here. in dark blue. John B Smith [1] b. 10 Oct 1792 Virginia, USA d. 13 Dec 1877 Licking County, Ohio, USA

CommentID 570 In I Don't Know You From Adam, Smith Family History by A. D. Smith it shows in the will as John B. Smith, but all other references are to John A, who married Mary Wilson in Muskingum Ohio. Meanwhile, in Descendants of the French Huguenot by Grace Hildy Croft, John B. and Catherine Dispennet are featured with descendants to known and easily traceable ancestors such as Friend Walter Smith. In Centennial History of City of Newark and Licking County Ohio by E. M. P. Brister, John Smith is described as a man of considerable wealth and influence who came to Licking County from Virginia early on. |
