Smith's in hiding?

Hi!  I'm new here,  I'm Laurie Smith Duncan and  my direct Smith line (or first one I should say, as there are actually severa of them involved) is Samuel Smith / Hannah Kitely.  HOWEVER, I doing some work on their descendents and pulled his grandson, Anderson Smith and his wife Elizabeth Parrott to work on.  I was doing a websearch with just their names and, though I have been told via my mother (now deceased) that the Smith line had more kinks in it than she knew how to hunt, I have so far been (or thought) I had been pretty solid in my research. HOWEVER,  DNA seems to put Anderson the son of one James Smith (b. 1769/ SC) and Martha and I had him as the son of William Smith / Nancy Speer (my great great etc. grandparents).  William being the son of Samuel & Hannah.  So where do I go from there.  LOL  Big question,  I haven't done lots of DNA work YET.  I've had mine done but do to the date when I did it, I'm not able to submit it,  but plan on having one done again as soon as I can.  Can anyone shed light for me on this descrepency?  Thanks!
