The group is based on YDNA testers that match. There are 2 additional autosomal testers that match the YDNA tester and also have much the same line, starting with Edward Smith b 1792 VA m Dorothy H Owen, making 4 members with that origin. Taking a second look at the YDNA kit for William Smith b 1792 NC m Sarah Rogers that stayed for generations in Wake Co NC. There are 2 other members of the same family that have tested mtDNA so are listed here as well. What's also interesting about this line is that there is a Lawrence Smith listed in the will of William Smith b 1821 Wake Co NC. the YDNA members who match also are from George Smith b 1821 Fentress Co TN (also look in Overton Co TN)

There is one member that is from James Smith b c 1730 d 1806 Isle of Wight County, Virginia. The YDNA member, however, has 12 markers, and has sadly passed away. Looking for an additional YDNA tester from this line that is a male Smith to do at least a 37 marker YDNA test for comparison. If it is confirmed that this is a good match for the group, it may be that the origin location in Virginia for at least some of these Smiths is Isle of Wight. As a side note, ond of the testers from James Smith has done a YDNA test from Ancestry, which does not have the exact same markers for comparison, so that is another good reason for looking for another YDNA tester.
