There are two YDNA testers who both claim Gideon H Smith m Elizabeth Sarah Holmes as the ancestor. Neither of these 2 Smith descendants match any other Smith on YDNA. And, these two Smith YDNA testers do not match each other.
Gideon H Smith can be tracked via census in 1840 Gilmer Co GA, 1850 Murray Co GA, 1860 Dalton, Whitfield Co GA, 1870 Whitfield Co GA and 1880 Tilton, Whitfield Co GA. Children listed in the census include Thomas, Jasper, Deby A, James, Laura F, R F (or Richard L), Ann and John

Family #1 R-M269 has Jasper Smith b 1834 GA m Louisa Lewis b 1842 TN. He can be found in 1880 Parker, Nevada County, Arkansas. Listed on this census are his apparent second wife Tennessee age 38, Sallie, Robert, George, Luke, Charlie, Gideon, John, Arlie and Emma. Note the child named Gideon. All children botn in Arkansas on this census (In 1910 Robert shows 1863 GA GA GA and his birth certificate says born Dalton GA.

Family #2 R-M269 has Thomas F Smith b 1834 GA m Nancy Caroline Disharoon. They married on June 28 1860 in Jackson Co AL. Children: John Timothy Smith, Sarah Ann Smith. Gideon H Smith does have a son Thomas but there is an immediate conflict. This Thomas married NC Disharoon on June 28, 1860 in Jackson Co AL BUT the 1860 census in Dalton, Whitfield Co GA was taken on July 9, 1860 and there is no wife for Thomas in 1860 Whitfield Co GA. If this is the same Thomas, despite the date conflict and the DNA conflict, need to have a source document showing that this Thomas F Smith is the son of Gideon.

What is needed, overall, is for there to be additional YDNA testers (male Smiths whose last name is Smith that can show a direct descent) for both these members to help clarify the conflict. Seems to me that Family#1 has a better claim to being the son of Gideon H Smith.
