This is to line out the different Frederick Smiths that are sometimes confused for each other. If you see anything that needs changing or more explanation, please comment and supply source documents.

1. Frederick Smith, Rev War Hero, born 1750 Herkimer Co NY, d 1822 Herkimer NY, son of Marten Schmidt d 1770 Herkimer Co NY m Elizabeth Weaven. His DAR # is A105391 and he is buried in Herkimer County, NY in Oak Hill Cemetery.

LINK  Would like DNA testers for this line to join the project This Frederick is NOT THE SAME as Frederick (2) below.

2. Frederick Smith d 1830 Brunswick County, VA m Mary Broadnax, daughter of William Broadnax. This Frederick is son of Cuthbert Smith b 1720 Surry Co VA d c 1780 Brunswick Co VA. Cuthbert Smith m Elizabeth Chamberlayne, widow of Sampson Lanier, Jr,  mentions Frederick in his will of 1778 in Brunswick Co VA.  Frederick's will (see link) in Brunswick Co VA. LINK  We do not have specific DNA testers for Frederick nor Cuthbert would like you to join if you are, and most particularly if you are a male Smith descendant of Frederick. For YDNA, because Cuthbert is in his father's will of 1750 in Surry Co VA, both are presumed to be in the Smith DNA Matched Grouping GRP-R-M269-32 for Nicholas Smith b 1656 m Elizabeth Flood

3. Frederick Smith d 1809 Brunswick County, Virginia m Nancy Sims. Need proof of the death date, have marriage record for 2 Jun 1804 Brunswick Co VA. This may be a son of Frederick Smith (2 above), not mentioned in Frederick (2) will but perhaps because he had died by then. Unknown if he had any children LINK If you are a known descendant of this Frederick, please join the project, would like to know if this might be the son of Frederick (2)

4. Frederick Smith b between 1790 and 1799 North Carolina m Elizabeth unknown. Was in 1823 Elbert Co GA, 1825 Upson Co GA through at least 1834. Died 1834 Upson Co GA. Critical defining part is that, after this Frederic's death, the land he had won in the 1827 Georgia Land Lottery was listed by 2nd husband to Elizabeth, Frederick Duffee in 1836 Upson Co GA property tax digest.  "Frederick Smith died in abt. 1834 and both Elizabeth Smith and Frederick Smith's Orphans are shown in records as having won separate "Georgia Land Lottery, 1832" lots drawn in 1835.  It is my understanding that the last Georgia Land Lottery was held in 1832.  However, the source document "History of Upson County, Georgia" clearly shows that both lots were drawn in 1835."-Kevin Smith. Why this matters is that this shows that the Frederick Smith (2) who married Mary Broadnax cannot be the same person mentioned in "Frederick Smith's orphans" and that this Frederick Smith (4) is the correct person referenced. LINK This Frederick matches into Group GRP-R-M269-1  which has origins in Chatham County, NC and Wilkes Co NC, with migration locations in Tennessee, Georgia, Illinois, and Indiana.
