Based on the YDNA match (J-M2697) for one member and the tree descent for another, it appears that Richard Smith b 1831 m Elizabeth Jane Johnson is the son of William Smith b 1806 GA m Sarah ? He and his family, including Richard, can be found in the 1850 Graceville, Houston County, GA census and his widow and children in the 1860 Dooly County GA census next door to Richard. William Smith b c 1806 GA, in turn, is son of Needham Smith d 1843 Houston County, Georgia, and Tabitha Tillman, found in 1830 Houston County, Georgia. (Note that William named two of his children Needham and also Tabitha)  Possibly this Needham Smith b c 1774 d 1843 is son of William Smith b 1746 Albemarle County, VA d 1824 Washington Co GA m Mary Richards. (Would like a YDNA male Smith tester from William Smith b 1773 m Nancy Dean, also in Houston County GA as this would help cement the Smith/Richards line)
