    • Research of Linda Smith Cheek--This line was tested by George M. Smith of Simpsonville SC who is from my Grandmother Mamie Ellison Smith and when he did the YDNA test for me I had no idea that he would match my grandfather, Walter B. Smith, which proved to me that my grandmother and grandfather were from same family. One from Alexander Smith and the other from his brother Drury Smith. LGS

Will of Alexander Smith 31 May 1898 appraised 9 Dec 1808 Greenville SC
Being in a low state of health etc. Beloved wife Patty Smith all my estate both real and personal during her natural life or widowhood then to my son John Smith my plantation etc. Son Drury Smith bay horse, gun etc. Daughters Nancy Smith and Cinthy Smith the rest of my estate at the death of my wife to be divided equal. Exor wife Patty Smith and Daniel Ford. Wit: Robert Bolling, Wm Berry, Hudson Berry. Greenville Co SC Will Bk A pg 185 Apt 6 File 417

Alexander had more children not named and already had their parts. Linda Smith Cheek

Said of his estate that paid to: David Goodlett, Hewlett Sullivan, R (Reuben) Barret, David. Ford, Hudson Berry, Luke Compton, and Widow of A. Smith
NOTE by LSC. I have no idea why these people were paid?

There is much in Greenville SC Courth House on this estate.

The deed below is rather confusing, read it carefully-- and I have put in notations () . Linda Smith Cheek
William Ellett to Moses Fendley Pack 126 Deed, Clerk of courts Office, Pickens SC
Known all men that I William Ellett/Elliott (JR)of the District of Edgefield in the state of SC for $500.00 to me paid by Moses Fendley of the District (Pickens) have sold all that tract of land containing five hundred acres the same originally granted to William Ellett (SR) 31 Aug 1774 and thence conveyed to his son William Elliott (JR) lying in being in the District (Pickens) on Middle Creek a branch of Savannah River and a Branch of Stephens Creek bounded NE and E by lands of Alexander Smith and by lands of Isaiah Blackwells and SW by lands of John Richseys. Dated 27 August 1800 Sg William Ellett Wit: Hezekiah A. Boyd and Allin Robinson

This tells me where Wm Elliott and Alexander Smith lived. Alexander Smith brother to my Drury Smith. Wm Elliott Sr father to Drury Smiths wife Sarah Elliott.

Middle Creek also states on branch of Stephens Creek and land on Savannah River (This land was in Pickens District SC) -also note the Alexander Smith who is the one in Greeville (mine) and this tells me he was was in Edgefield SC in 1774. He is brother to Drury. The William Ellett (Elliott) is the father of Drury's wife Sarah Elliott, so she had a brother William.
