    Notes
    • Notes for WILLIAM POWELL SMITH:

Getting back now to the Smiths, which are closer to our beginning. Benjamin Smith whose parents were Benjamin Smith and Eliza Powell, were farmers on Your Peninsula, S.A. at first, then my grandfather who married Louisa Abbott lived at Minlaton, S.A. When my father, William Powell Smith was around 12 years old, the family moved to the "Cattle Trap" area near Jeparit. Thats where "our" Smith family started and thats where I have to pick up the "thread". The Victorian start of the Smith family which we belong to. This has to be true certain. William Powell Smith and Susannah Bickham Hardy Putland, were married in the Methodist Church in the Victorian Wemmera River town of Jeparit on Easter Saturday, 23rd March William known as "Bill" was a good Aussies ules Footballer, Susan a Sunday School Teacher at the Methodist Church in Jeparit.
