    • From his estate settlement: “This indenture made and entered into this day of September in the year 1836...between Elijah King complainant and Charles R. Burks, Elizabeth Burks, Elijah Burks, Floyd Burks, Sarah Burks, Felix Burks and Samuel Burks heirs of Samuel Burks deceased...”

      From his brother Charles Burks’ will: “Item eleven I give unto Samuel Burks negro Poll and her three children namely Malinda, Jim and Margaret provided he pays to Sarah Ann Neam, Ann Vain and Mary King the sums ere in given to them in money before the first day of January 1833. Item twelve I give to my brother Samuel Burks the upper tract of land I purchased from the heirs of Presley Smith deceased togher with all of the balance of my estate.....I do appoint my brother Samuel Burks and Dr. Jon Lancaster executors of this my last will.”

      On the 1830 census Samuel had 5 males in his household, one under 5, two 5-10, one 10-15, one 40-50. There were three females, one under 5, one 10-15, and one 30-40. There were also 4 slaves, one male under 24, two males 24-36 and one female 24-36., , , ,
