  • Notes
    • Obadiah Smith, who was born in Cumberland Co., VA (the part that later became Powhatan) in 1763, he moved with an un-named grandfather to Buckingham Co., VA in 1777 (the part that became Appomattox Co.) , and continued to live in Buckingham until 1803, when he moved for 6 months to Hawkins Co., TN, and then moved to Jefferson Co., TN (the part that became Hamblen Co.). I know from surviving land tax records for Buckingham Co., that Obadiah Smith lived in the general vicinity of where Alexander Smith had land along Wreck Island Creek. A John and Issac Worley also had land in the general area, and we believe my Obadiah Smith was connected to those Worleys (maternal uncles).

Obadiah Smith b. 1 Mar 1763 Cumberland Co., VA (born in that part which became Powhatan Co. in 1777)

      m. unknown - probably in Buckingham Co., VA

      d. Aft. Sept 1838 Jefferson Co. TN

Obadiah Smith's wife is unknown, Buckingham Co. records having burned in a courthouse fire. Through his Revolutionary War pension application, we know he was born 1 Mar 1763 in that part of Cumberland Co., VA that became Powhatan Co. He moved to Buckingham when he was 14 in 1777 and lived there until 1803, when he moved to TN. He died after Sept 1838 in Jefferson Co., TN. Strong evidence exists that his parents were John Smith and Mary Worley of Cumberland Co.
