"History of Van Buren Twp. Wayne Co. MI'' (1977) page___ ''The Benjamin D. Smith family story (compiled by Roscoe C. Begole) was read at the 2nd Annual Reunion Sep. 1900 in Belleville, Wayne Co. MI. 8 of Benjamin & Elizabeth Smith's 10 children were still living. Benjamin Smith was born near Hoboken, NJ, the second of 5 children. His father was a farmer who as young man, was in charge of a gang of slaves on the Ryerson Plantation. In 1822, Benjamin married his neighbor, Elizabeth/Betsy Post. In April 1826 Ben & Betsy Smith moved to Parma, Monroe Co. NY. Others in their Smith & Post families eventually joined them in NY. The Smiths left NY in 1833 via the Erie Canal to Buffalo NY; then on steamer 'Shelden D. Thompson' to Detroit, MI. Jason Tyler in Wayne Co. MI traded his farm on Tyler Rd, to Benjamin Smith, so Ben's wife could live near her brother, Henry C. Post - as they had done in Parma NY.''

2983 MAD: James Barton and Mary Duncan per Sammie Duncan; their dau. Barbara mar. Millington Smith in Stewart Co. TN after Smith and Barton families moved from Edgecombe Co. NC; see Clark Co. AR Biography of Smith family)
This is FALSE. Mary was Mary Anglin. Her fathers will listed James Barton as a son in law. The Barton's were from Caswell NC not Edgecombe. 1784 tax record is quite clear. The bios in Clarke Ar are not factual. They are somewhat close. Not exact. I have read them and documents tell a different story. In 1798 Millington was in Logan Ky his mother was a Beggs and her brother was also in Logan. They moved from there to Union/Johnson Illinois along that County line and were members of Clear Creek Baptist Church. They likely had letters from Logan Ky. That Church was part of the Cape Girardeaux group and Primitive Baptists. Church records, when available, show a pretty clear path. They had letters so they could move to new area. There was a Milington Smith in Union Illinois 1840 and I will pull up the will of Millington as it listed the children. In 1810 Mary Barton, Barnabas and Millington all live on the Big Whippoorwill Creek. When Millington and Barnabas were chain carriers for William McIntosh they may have each received 35 acres of the 200. I know Barnabas sold his 35 to Sarah McIntosh when her husband Cornelius died in 1816. I will look at those early Logan tax records for the Smiths and Beggs and Bartons.
