William Henry Smith (1851-1931) next to his wife Charity Elvira (Bean) Smith (1847-1908). Standing are their 3 sons, from left to right Charles Walker (1885-1912), William Oscar (1878-1959) and my g-grandfather Thompson Coleman (1879-1957). I assume this photo was taken in Lineville, Alabama because they all lived there.

I found the photo in this book by Billy D. Smith (descendent of Charles Walk

William Leroy Smith
William Leroy Smith
This is my grandfather I never met. He passed away when my mom was nine-years-old. He fought in WWII, survived it, and died in 1948 during an afternoon nap at 40, probably of a heart attack, possibly of an aneurism. This changed my mother and her brother\'s life forever. I wish I\'d had the opportunity to know him, in all pics, there is an easy and impish smile. Family lore is, my grandmother loved him to the ends of earth, \"Kay sure loved Bill.\" I feel he had a great sense of humour, his smile in most pics tells all.
On the upside, she remarried at 44, he 15 years younger and the grandpa I grew up with was a lovely and kind man... Jack Betteridge.

William Louis Smith - WW1 Draft Info. He was working for the Greenville and Columbus Railroad in Mississippi from as early as 1917 probably until at least 1927, when the great Mississippi River flood devastated the region, and we know he was on a sand bag crew under some fellow named "Hanson", since they wrote the foreman's name on the backs of their shirts during the flood, and he was wearing shirts with "Hanson" written on the back, according to my uncle James and some other of the old folks years ago who knew him. He was only 40 when he died.
